Hell’O Monsters (Belgium)
Hell’O Monsters collective emerged in the late 1990s as a result of the meeting between Jerôme Meynen, François Dieltiens and Antoine Detaille. They quickly left behind wall art, graffiti letters and spray paint in favour of paper, characters, ink drawings and paint, moving on to sculpture, installations and wall drawing. They developed a unique graphic vocabulary that is complex and ambiguous, which they continue to expand in the course of their creative output, customising many recurrent elements, which they combine each time with new characters, or incorporate into unusual settings.

Playing with the idea of deviant sexuality, the drawings of French artist Mirka Lugosi(featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 24) often take sinister turns as the artist takes us into sparsely populated forests and empty rooms with nude, hooded figures. Since we featured him in the magazine, Lugosi has created a new series. While continuing to work in a monochromatic palette, Lugosi’s new drawings show more experimentation with color. Black and white scenes mix with colorful elements on the same page in a cinematic style, almost like a flashback in a movie. Lugosi recently showed some of his new drawings at the festival Drawing Now Paris, which just ended on April 14. Take a look at some of Mirka Lugosi’s works here, images courtesy of the artist.
